Leadership Team

J. James Gary - President
J. James Gary is president of Medmatics, and a member of Medmatics’ board of directors. He became Medmatics’ president in 2007, succeeding the company's previous chief executive officer, co-founder and current board member, Ari Straus.

James was previously founder and CEO of GlobeTrend Technologies, an information technology systems integrator and AT&T value-added reseller. Under his leadership, the firm achieved revenues of 5+ million dollars and within one year the designation of ranking as the #8 AT&T value added reseller in the Eastern United States. James sold the business in 2007.

Prior to starting his own technology firm, James held several management positions, 2001-2005 with AT&T. Before AT&T, he was a director of supply-chain consultant for John Deere and Ford Motor Company de Mexico in Mexico.

James began his career as an international channel manager (Mexico, Caribbean, Russia) at Pentair (NYSE: PNR) where he managed the delivery of turn key instant oil change franchises for Pennzoil-Quaker State, BP, Unocal, Shell, and ExxonMobil.

James earned his MBA from Thunderbird, School of Global Management and his BS in business administration from Saint Louis University.
Steve Larmon - Chief Technologist
Steve is chief technologist for Medmatics, and a member of Medmatics’ board of directors. He became Medmatics’ chief technologist in 2006.

Steve joined Medmatics in 2005 to lead the development of software integration interfaces for physician clinics. During this time he developed applications that integrated electronic health records(EHR) software with testing laboratories such as LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics. The application was sold and continues to operate as an embedded feature in a leading EHR software application.

In late 2005, Steve began the development of CoumaTrace, the server based predecessor to the web based anticoagulation management application CoaguTrak®.

Prior to Medmatics, Steve worked on several projects for Pratt and Whitney and Lockheed Martin, where he managed system migrations and networks.

Steve’s career as a technologist has included software development and infrastructure engineering with national healthcare providers, large public sector contractors, and small software development firms, including his own startup.
Marc Straus, MD, FACP - Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board
Dr. Straus co-founded Medmatics and is the chairman of the board.

Prior to founding Medmatics, Ari served as CEO of MDx, a medical management company that provided complete practice services to large multi-specialty practices from 2003-2006.

In 1996 Dr. Straus started MDx Medical Management which focused on high-level practice management in academic and private practice settings and offered a full range of services in addition to billings and collections. MDx managed over 300 physicians in the New York region. After one year of management, the per capita increase in physician collections averaged 42% percent.

In 1983 Dr. Straus started Medical Registry Services, a company with a single product: a software program used by hospitals to manage their cancer registries. This was an easy-to-use, high quality package which, in a short time, controlled the entire market and had a profit margin over 50 percent.

In 1982, he started the second home IV infusion company in the United States, after raising $1.4 Million in funding and a IPO, after its peak some eight years later, CarePlus had a market cap of $1 Billion.

Dr. Straus is a board certified oncologist who trained at the National Cancer Institute. He has authored some 100 scientific papers and three textbooks on lung cancer. At age 31 Dr. Straus was named Chairman of Oncology at Boston University Medical Center and then New York Medical College.

Dr. Straus has also served as a consultant to several venture capitalists and for a renowned hedge fund where he advised on their biotech portfolio.

Dr. Straus acted as a Trustee for ten years at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pa. and in 2004, founded the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, NY.
Ari Straus - Co-Founder
Ari co-founded Medmatics and is an active board member.

Prior to his role of CEO for Medmatics, Ari served as CEO of MDx, a medical management company that provided complete practice services to large multi-specialty practices from 2003-2006.

From 2000-2003 and before entering healthcare technology, Ari was the General Manager and served on the executive team at Walmart.com.

Prior to Walmart.com, Ari founded and sold Figleaves.com (www.figleaves.com), an online Internet retail company, which continues to operate today.

Before Figleaves.com Ari was with Deloitte Consulting and The Coca-Cola Company.

Ari also serves on the board of Putnam Hospital Center and is a volunteer firefighter in Cold Spring, NY.

Straus earned his MBA from Emory University and his BA from Franklin & Marshall College.
